Course description

These two days answer the two questions that decide whether a garage makes money.

What is each hour worth, and how do you fill those hours with the right work? Most owners are strong on neither, through no fault of their own. Nobody teaches a technician the money, and nobody teaches them marketing either. So the labour rate gets copied from the garage down the road, parts get marked up on habit, and work comes in from somewhere nobody has ever bothered to identify. It feels like a busy business. It rarely feels like a profitable one.

Day one is the numbers, in plain language. You will work out what an hour in your workshop genuinely costs to sell, use that to set a labour rate you can defend, get clear on the difference between markup and margin and what that difference has been costing you, and identify the handful of KPIs actually worth tracking week to week.

Day two turns that into growth. You will decide who your ideal customer is and which customers you would be better off without, work out how your garage is positioned against everyone else locally, and cover the practical end: premises and brand, Google listing and reviews, your website, and the customer database you already own and almost certainly under-use. You leave with a labour rate you can justify and a marketing plan on one page that fits around running a workshop.

The order matters. Marketing a garage that does not know its own numbers just fills the diary with work sold too cheaply. Get the pricing right first and every new customer is worth more than the last one. Andy Savva has run independent garages for over thirty years, including a 14,000 sq ft purpose-built workshop, and built his businesses by being deliberately niche and properly priced rather than by being the cheapest.

“A superb, eye opening, inspirational 2 day Financial Understanding Essentials and Marketing Essentials course, so unbelievably well explained and professionally delivered.”

Who this course is for

This is for you if…

  • You could not show the workings on what one hour in your workshop costs.
  • You are busier than ever and the money has not followed.
  • You set your labour rate by looking at what the garage down the road charges.
  • You are relying on word of mouth and calling it a marketing strategy.
  • You want better work, not just more work.

This is not for you if…

  • You believe finance is your accountant's job and good work markets itself.
  • You are comfortable turning over plenty and never asking what is left.
